Hub

  • A Hub is a common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are commonly used to connect segments to LAN.
  • A hub contains multiple ports.
  • When a packet arrives at one port, it copies to the other ports so that all segments of LAN can see all the packets.
  • Hub serves as a central connection for all network equipment and handles a datatype known as frames. Frame carry data.
  • When the frame is received it is amplified and then transmitted on to the port of destination PC.
  • A passive serves simply as a conduit for the data enable it to go from one port to the other.
  • Intelligent hub includes some additional features that enables an administrator to monitor the traffic passing through the hub and to configure each port in hub.
  • Switching hubs are the third party of hub, actually it reads the destination address of each packet and then forward the packets to the correct port.
  • Hub can be used as a standalone device or connected to compatible hubs hubs and switches to form a larger network.
  • It is easy to install and maintain for home networking and for small business branch office networking.
