- For connecting LAN we use cat 5e cable. It has 4 pairs of coloured wires.
- Two pairs of coloured wires for transmitting data from computers and two pairs for receiving data.
- So there is a colour coding. The cable is inserted into a RJ-45 pin for connections and fixed it is called crimping.
- For crimping we should have some equipment.
- First remove the outer cover of the cable using crimping tool. The cut the wires inside it with same line exactly to fit it in the RJ-45 connector.
- Make sure that the colours are in correct order before inserting and after inserting wires in RJ-45 connector.
- Then crimp the RJ-45 connector using crimp tools.
- Then finally test the cable whether the cable is crimped correctly or not using cable tester.
- Above connection is called parallel connection. It is used to connect one device to other like computer to switch.
Cross over connection:
- Cross over connection is used when two hosts are connected directly.
- When a computer to computers directly connected, switch to switch is are directly connected and router to router is directly connected.
