- When the network router does not have the sufficient ports for connecting more network devices then switch is connected to add extra ports.
- The process of connecting switch is called as configuration of switch.
- The switch I used in this process has 8 ports, we can give input to any port and take output from remaining ports.
- I have connected the input to the first port (port-1) and took output from last port (port-8) connected to a computer.
- Now switch is connected to the computer.
- There will be IP configuration in the windows settings to connect the computer to the network.
- Now login the desktop as administrator.
- Right-click on the network icon in tray and select "Open Network and Sharing Center".
- Now click on "Change Adapter Settings".
- Right-click on Ethernet and select "Properties".
- Select the option "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on properties.
- If you want get IP address automatically then select "Obtain IP address automatically".
- If you want to enter IP address manually then select use this IP address option and enter the IP, subnet mask and Default gateway.
- Now the computer is connected to the network with switch.
